Chiropractic Treatment

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a regulated primary healthcare profession. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints and muscles) as well as the effects these disorders can have on the nervous system and general health.

Although chiropractic treatment is best known for alleviating back and neck pain, which it does very well, patients also consult chiropractors regarding a variety of other conditions.

What type of training do chiropractors have?

Standard training for a Chiropractic Masters degree is four to five years. This is subsequently supported by on-going continuous professional development. Education includes comprehensive training in physiology, human anatomy, biochemistry, orthopaedics, neurology, clinical diagnosis, diagnostic imaging, nutrition, exercise and rehabilitation.

What does treatment involve?

Chiropractic treatment includes of a range of techniques to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility. This includes hands-on manipulation and mobilisation of the spine. It may also incorporate a variety of other interventions such as corrective exercise, dry needling and nutritional therapy, as well as offering postural and lifestyle advice.

Does chiropractic treatment work?

Yes. A growing body of research studies and reviews now demonstrates what chiropractic patients have been saying for years – chiropractic treatment is both effective and safe. The evidence strongly supports chiropractic’s whole-body and cost-effective approach for a variety of conditions and interventions including:

Lower back pain.

Neck pain.

Headache.

Shoulder pain.

Hip arthritis.

Knee arthritis.

Ankle sprains.

Athletic injury prevention.

Is treatment safe?

Yes. Chiropractic is widely recognised as one of the safest, drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal (nerve, muscle and joint) complaints.

No health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects but chiropractic does have an excellent safety record. Any associated treatment risks are very small. Most patients experience immediate relief following chiropractic treatment however, some may occasionally experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they might after exercise. Current research shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.

Patient

I had chronic back pain and I heard that Steffen was the best person to see locally. I now have no more pain in bed at night or whilst driving. Unlike previous treatments Steffen never manipulated my back aggressively and I walked out of the clinic always in better condition. I would definitely recommend Steffen without hesitation.
