Dry Needling

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique using a solid filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate the underlying tissue. It is called “dry” needling because there is no solution injected as with a hypodermic needle.

Although dry needling utilises the same needle as acupuncture these treatments are not one and the same.

The main difference being that acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine and needling occurs along the ‘meridian system’, whilst dry needling is based on western neuroanatomy.  Interestingly, however, many of the common needle locations are shared by both systems.

Dry needling can be very effective for a variety of soft tissue complaints including tennis / golfers’ elbow, muscle pain and headaches.

I had chronic back pain and I heard that Steffen was the best person to see locally. I now have no more pain in bed at night or whilst driving. Unlike previous treatments Steffen never manipulated my back aggressively and I always walked out of the clinic in better condition. I would definitely recommend without hesitation.
